A really nice 1966 Austin Healey MKIII 3000 BJ8, very nicely set up for an impressive driven show at a British car day, finished in correct British Racing Green with nice luster, chrome luggage rack, excellent chrome around the whole car, great black correct interior, tonneau cover, strong 2912cc, 6 cylinder engine with proper dual SU carberators, 4 speed transmission with working electric overdrive, chrome wire wheels, 165/R15 radial blackwalls, excellent street performance with the independent front suspension and live rear axel, front disc brakes and the rear drums just checked,
ENGINE/TRANSMISSION: this is the correct and fully detailed engine compartment, with detailed inline 6-cylinder, cast iron block and head, solid valve lifters, this engine of 2912 cc or 177.7 cid this 6 cylinder 2912cc or 177.7cid inches has a long stroke for very strong compression on this engine, LINK has the original dual SU type HD8 sidedraft carberators, these carberators have just been set with the guide books from British Leyland, (LINK) this final engine is the series is rated at 150 horsepower with a massive 167 lbs of torque that was quite good for the day, correct fan and fan guard, correct valve cover and valve cover plates, rebuilt heater assembly, new correct air cooling ducts, new radiator hoses, clamps and correct cap, fresh oil, filter, spark plugs, coolant flushed, the dual carburetors were tuned and work with a top British mechanic, has the casting of then engine as the tab lost during the years, 4 speed transmission with working electric overdrive,
History: here is a car with initial restoration in Georgia having had a California history some time ago from information received from said Georgia owner, then found and brought to higher standards with further maintenance to improve, sold to another Georgia meticulous collector who did only about 500 miles in 4 years, he then worked on the mechanicals, then for lack of space in a new home, this came back to Fraser Dante for another update with a top British mechanic and professional detailing,
BODY: very nice British Racing Green paint, the black top is in nice condition, the paint on this car is assumed to be around 15 years old with limited driving, recent full buffing to bring out the luster, it looks great in the sun, one can see some very minor aging areas around the hood area as this was restored with ‘period’ paint for show conditions, not bad and they do not even show in photos or from a few feet away, no signs of rust in a full body check, very solid throughout, has the proper spare tire, proper tools, nice trunk, the chrome bumpers front and rear are like new, has the bumper guards, the luggage rack and the trim pieces set off the British Racing Green, new inner door jam welts, the rear tail light and brake lenses with surrounds are new, the exhaust has the chrome period extensions, correct BJ8 rear reflectors and brackets, the chrome sides of the windshield and the top of the doors are polished in terrific condition, chrome wire wheels, 165/R15 radial blackwalls,
INTERIOR: nice side interior panels, new full carpet kit over prepped and red primered inner floors, (LINK), factory console, the side windows roll up and down well, the dash pod is excellent, the wood fascia looks terrific, the working gauges have chrome bezels around the instruments that are ‘bright, has the factory radio, the shift lever has the proper ball, the console in the same condition, the seats have the proper off white braiding, the perforated backs are as factory, very good carpet, has the nice tonneau cover,
BRAKES/SUSPENSION/UNDERCHASSIS: the underchassis and the side wings are in excellent condition in this important area, hard to find such a solid car that is ready to enjoy, (LINK) recent mechanicals include the mechanical check with top British mechanic, the brakes and calipers were gone through, one front rebuilt and one replaced with fresh NOS unit, (LINK), nice pads and rotors, all bearings replaced, new brake hoses, the shocks, bushings and other suspension pieces checked, then road tested, the underchassis is very solid, not show detailed but just cleaned, painted black and checked for being very correct, the floors seem as factory, the frame and the welds appear as they were made, the single stock exhaust system is proper steel,
